All-in-one wholesome experience

The highlight of the trip to The Nail Social was their all-in-one service – watching preloaded movies on their iPad Netflix app, eating brownies and enjoying a cup of tea at the same time while doing your nails. I caught the whole entire movie of Mean Girls while the hardworking manicurists were working on my nails in the clean and cosy salon.

For added personal touch, manicurists asked me the type of nail tips that I like and the level of ticklishness for the massage service that was done before painting my nails.

All in all, it was a very delightful experience at The Nail Social. The manicurists were gentle and friendly, plus the relaxing setting and services will definitely make you want to come back again.

By the way, did I mention that The Nail Social gives back to the society by providing local underprivileged woman such as single mothers, ex-offenders and low income households with vocational trainings? Now that’s another reason to support them.

My Favourite Kind of Cleansing Sponge

Sponsored Review

I received a KUU Konjac Sponge from Japalang Pte Ltd approximately four months ago. After months of trying, it is time to review the sponge.

KUU Konjac is a deep cleansing spong made from 100% natural fibre Konjac. Konjac, is a traditional Japanese health food made from a type of potato called “Konnyaku potato” and calcium hydroxide or oxide calcium. 97% of Konjac is water, 3% is Glucomannan and is rich in minerals.

The KUU Konjac Sponge is 100% handmade from konjac vegetable plant root that is extracted from the Konjac potato. It is naturally ph balanced and can be used alone or with a small amount of cleanser.

The one that I received is Natural French Green Clay, specially designed for users with oily or combination skin types. Green Clay is rich in mineral and fine essential oils that help to restore vitality and glow to the skin. It also helps remove impurities and tighten pores at the same time.

The KUU Konjac sponge exfoliates and cleans my skin very gently. I love the green clay smell. Additionally, I only need to use a small amount of cleanser as the design of the sponge helps the cleanser to foam up better.

Sponge Benefits
KUU Konjac sponge also contains no chemical, preservatives, colors or additives, therefore suitable for all skin types including sensitive skin users. It is so gentle that it can also be used on infants’ skins.

All KUU Konjac sponges lasts approximately 3 months. Once the sponge shows signs of breaking down, that means it is time to replace it.

The KUU Konjac sponges are biodegradable, therefore you can add it to the compost heap or plant it under your favorite potted plant.

Where to buy?
The KUU Konjac sponges are available at all BHG stores at S$11.90 each. Alternatively, you can also purchase it at

K-Palette ‘Sweet as Chocolate’

Singaporean girls should be no strangers to K-Palette, a cosmetic brand famous for its “1 Day Tattoo” eye cosmetics.

Personally I am a great fan of K-Palette’s brow and eye liners as they are very lasting and natural looking.

Therefore, I was very excited to attend K-Palette’s ‘Sweet as Chocolate’ campaign, a launch on its new Real Lasting Eyeliner in Deep Brown (waterproof) colour and their newly improved formula this fall.

CIMG8769A picture of my sister and I wearing K-Palette’s brow and eye liners

Launched in Singapore in 2007, K-Palette has received numerous awards for its products annually. K-Palette’s 24h Real Lasting Eyeliner is one of the best-selling liquid eyeliner in Japan.

They have since expanded their range of eye makeup to include brow liners, eye pencils, mascaras and concealers.

New Improved Formula
K-Palette has improved on their existing formula to ensure eye liners and pencils dry instantly, which means no more panda eyes from smudging or blinking. Additionally, eye liners and pencils are more lasting with strengthened resistance against water, sweat and sebum.

The new formula also added Hyaluronic acid Na, water soluble collagen and Swertia Japonica essence to take care of the delicate area around our eyes during application.

There was a live demonstration by Ms Aya Umehara, a professional makeup artist with over 12 years of experiences in the beauty industry, on achieving different makeup looks using K-Palette’s brown eye makeup products.

Ms Umehara said that sultry and sexy eye makeup can be better achieved by using K-Palette’s Real Lasting Eyeliner in Deep Brown (waterproof) as brown eyeliners look less harsh on our eyes than black eyeliners.

Additionally our eyes can also look sexier when the upper liner and the lower liner are not joined together (as shown in the picture below).

We also attempted to use K-Palette’s products to create makeup looks on paper.

Review: Vanity Trove (July)

This is my second personalised beauty box from Vanity Trove!

One thing that is really commendable about Vanity Trove is their super efficient delivery. I ordered the box on 22 July 2013 (Monday), and I received it two days later.

It really makes shopping for products so much easier.

What’s inside the box?

1. Herborist Whitening and Revitalizing Mask
2. Phytomer Souffle Marin
3. Sampar Street A Peel
4. Simple Cleansing Facial WIpes
5. GO60 Spot Free! Treatment Masque
6. GabaNite All Natural Drink Relaxer
7. Essential Rich Premier Shampoo *additional*

Starting with my favourites:

Phytomer Souffle Marin – 3ml Sample
S$119 for full size 30ml at Guardian

It is a serum that delivers oxygen boost straight to applied areas of our skin. Formulated with marine extracts, this serum also protects skin from environmental pollution and free radical damage.

This serum is very lightweight despite a creamy texture. It spreads easily across the face and upon application, I felt a slight tingling sensation.

I really love how my skin feels like the next morning when I wake up. My skin is smoother and  brighter looking.

Herborist Whitening and Revitalizing Mask – 30g Sample

S$26 for full size 100g at Watsons, Ngee Ann City
Available in 100g (S$26), 260g (S$39) and 500g (S$56)

This is a mask that contains pearl powder and 7 whitening herbs that helps to soften skin, evens skin tone, reduces dullness, and inhibits formation of melanin.

The mask does not smell like Chinese herbs, but instead reminds me of the smell of baby powder. The mask has a creamy texture that does not dry out even after application for 20 minutes. After usage, the skin feels softer, smoother and more radiant.

GabaNite All Natural Drink Relaxer – Full size bottle
S$4.00 per bottle at Guardian, Watsons, 7-Eleven, Unity, Nishino, John Little and Essentials

This drink helps to relax and have a good sleep with its plant derived ingredients. It also contains the additional Gamma Amino Butyric Acid (GABA) and melatonin.

I picked this up because I have problem sleeping at night. It really helped me to fall asleep in less than 30 minutes after drinking.

It is a berry flavoured drink and the taste is very sour. Additionally, I do not like the aftertaste as the taste is strange.

Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes – Full Size

It is a makeup remover wipes that contains no alcohol, oil and is ph balanced.

I love the cleansing wipes as it is very gentle to my skin – it doesn’t sting or leave my skin tight. Additionally, it is able to remove most of my makeup with just one wipe.

GO60 Go Spot-Free! Treatment Masque
S$60 for 5 pieces at Esplanade Exchange, #B1-24

The spot-free treatment mask helps to balance excess sebum secretion with its ph balanced mask. It can be used to leave overnight on the skin or for 30 minutes.

However, I wouldn’t recommend to use it overnight, as the serum would dry out on the mask.

Happy National Day to you and visit Vanity Trove’s website to subscribe now. The box is fully customisable at S$25 only!

Review: L’Oréal Excellence Fashion Hair Color

Sponsored Review

I received a bottle of L’Oréal Excellence Fashion hair dye in Ashy Nude Brown few weeks ago, but waited till after my hair cut to try it out. 😀

Ashy Nude Brown is one of the color from its new Luxurious Golds collection under the L’Oréal Excellence Fashion range. Launched this year, the Luxurious Golds collection is designed to achieve instant glamor without visiting the salon.

DIY dye job can be torturous and end up disastrous when the instructions weren’t followed carefully. I kind of like using L’Oréal Excellence Fashion hair dye because of the clear step-by-step instructions written on the box itself.

You will find the following in the box:

1. Protective Pre-color Serum
2. Protective Crème Colorant
3. Crème Developer and Comb Applicator
4. Protective Conditioner
5. Instruction Manual (in 3 languages) AND a pair of gloves inside.

Each product is labelled with number so that you can easily tell which product to use first.

Here’s a picture of my hair color before the dye job. It was mainly black and remnants from the previous dye job.

Once you mix the colorant and the developer together, switch the applicator with the comb applicator given in the box for easy application. The application requires at least 30 minutes for the color to be well developed.

CIMG8926 CIMG8929

After that, you can rinse off the mixture with water and apply the conditioner!

I love that the conditioner was not in a sachet but in a huge bottle. Since I can’t finish all of it at one go, I would usually use it for the next few days.

Now my hair is in a pretty shade of brown!

I really love the color now and how my hair feels. Self dye jobs can be tricky because we don’t have the tools and technology to achieve salon grade coloring. Plus, it can dry up our hair and it usually smells nasty.

What I like about L’Oréal Excellence Fashion is that the color is rich and intense even without bleaching, thanks to its Hi-Shine Complex and Hi-Intensity Complex formula. Additionally, my hair feels smooth due to the Triple-Care formula which contains Micro-Cera essence, amino acid and collagen.

The dye mixture also doesn’t smell as strong as the other dyes I’ve tried!

Where to get it:
The L’Oréal Excellence Fashion Luxurious Golds collection is now available (from August 2013 onwards) at an affordable price of $18.90 in Watsons, Guardian, major supermarkets and hypermarkets, and selected departmental stores.

The VanityTrove Products Review

Sponsored Review

I wrote an introduction post on the revamped VanityTrove Box, which allows ourselves to pick and choose products we want to try off from their website. (read the post here)

Since it has been almost two weeks and I’ve tried all the products that were sent to me… It is now the time to give my honest review on them!

First, let me start on the products which I like…

Phyto Intense Hydration Regenerating Night Cream

I really really love this leave-on conditioner!

You might think that the name “Regenerating Night Cream” sounds like a very rich and heavy hair leave-on conditioner because it has to be able to work magic overnight, but it is not.

Despite being a cream product, the texture is light yet moisturising. I always enjoy touching my hair the next morning because they are no longer as tangled as before! Sometimes I use the cream in the day time.

Blumarine Bellissima EdP (30ml)

This is a perfume from the Italian fashion label BluMarine.

I love the scent of this perfume because of its floral-musk scent, a little romantic yet sensual at the same time.

This perfume sillage is heavy when first applied but soft after a few minutes. Longevity wise, I find it lasts about 2-3 hours.

M’asque Mask with Collagen, Sheep Placenta and Witch Hazel

Screen Shot 2013-07-22 at 2.06.09 AM

One thing I love about this mask is that it has the eyelid flap. Most masks do not have this and it is frustrating because that would mean that I have to use a separate eye mask.

The mask fits my face really well, especially at around the nose area which is great for me.

I also like the fact that this mask is very moisturising and the essence absorbs into my skin really well without feeling sticky.

And… there are some products which I don’t really like…

Cottage Garden Wild Rose Hand Cream (100ml)

I love the smell of the wild rose scent because it is light and not stingy to my nose. However, I dislike the texture of this hand cream. My hands feel greasy after usage and it is not very moisturising.

Princess Pinki Magic Pink Cream (15ml)

I am most excited to try this among the other products I picked because of the product’s description. However after trying out for a few times, I decided that I have not much use for it.

What this product does is to turn your skin pink for 1-3 days. You can apply it on your cheeks, lips, nipples or anywhere you want it pink.

I tried it on my bare lips and it went crazily hot pinkish, but it starts to wear off after a few washes with just water. Leaving it overnight is also a bad idea because it ended up settling into the cracks of my lips.

I can’t imagine using this on my cheeks. 😮

Avance Lash Serum EX

Ok, I can’t decide if I like or dislike this product.

This is a eyelash serum for strengthening and moisturising our lashes. So far, it doesn’t give me any milia bumps on my sensitive eyelid. This is good news for me. But I have not seen any much difference on my eyelashes.

I will continue to observe any difference.
Overall, I’m very satisfied with the new revamped VanityTrove. I think everyone should subscribe to it and try it out too!
